Our 2016 Resolution for Resistance!
To the Resist Community,
When an organization has been around as long as we have, it is easy to talk about our past and the history made by the groups that we have been lucky enough to support.
As 2015 comes to a close, we want to share our vision for the future. The end of the (Gregorian) year is generally a time to reflect and start to vision for the future. For us this means asking ourselves, "Are we being the most radical and impactful foundation that we can be?"
So without further ado, here are three of our 2016 resolutions for resistance!
We aim to be led by and accountable to those on the frontlines of the movement for social justice. Philanthropy has traditionally been dominated by wealthy people who don't always share the vision and values of those putting their bodies on the line for social change. We want to be a different type of organization. This means we will continue to have a staff and board led by those most impacted by injustice as well as raise funds from a wide and diverse community of radical donors.
We aim to get rid of as many obstacles as possible that get in the way of supporting grassroots organizations. We know that the revolution will not happen through writing grant proposals. Therefore, we aim to simplify our grantmaking process so that activists can spend more time in the streets raising hell and less time at a desk writing proposals.
We will share more stories of the grassroots movements that are working for transformative justice every single day. We know we have a unique and special vantage point here at Resist. We are able to witness hundreds of the most vital, effective, and radical groups out there standing up to wealth and power. Through the Newsletter, our website, social media, and other new outlets in 2016 (stay tuned!), we want to share what inspires us with the entire Resist community and beyond.
Thank you again for all of your support. We hope you will continue on this journey with us of working to be the most effective, radical foundation out there.
To another year of building a better world together!
